Your Guide To Spellwork: Understanding Spellcasting Types and Complexities

If you're exploring professional spellcasting for the first time, it can be challenging to know exactly what kind of magical support you need—or how involved the work may be to achieve your desired outcome. If you're like most of my clients, you likely already know what it is you want a spell to do for you. What you might not know is the magical terminology for the type of spellwork  you're seeking or the amount of work that may be needed to be successful.

This guide is designed to help you understand both the different categories of spellwork and the level of ritual work that may be required. Below, you'll find descriptions of common types of spellcasting, including love, prosperity, protection, uncrossing, justice, baneful work, and more. You'll also learn about my spellcasting complexity tiers—Simple, Moderate, and Complex Workings—which reflect the amount of time, energy, resources, and ritual effort involved in addressing a particular situation.

One important thing to understand is that the type of spell and the complexity of the spell are not necessarily the same. A love spell, for example, might be a straightforward attraction working for one client, while another person's relationship situation may involve emotional wounds, outside influences, multiple people, or significant energetic resistance that requires a much more extensive approach. The same principle applies to prosperity work, protection magic, baneful workings, and virtually every other area of spellcraft.

Rather than viewing the information below as a list of fixed services, think of it as a guide to help you better understand your options. Every working I perform is customized to the individual, taking into account the unique circumstances, challenges, and goals involved. My aim is not simply to perform a ritual, but to create the most effective magical strategy for your specific situation.

Baneful Workings

Baneful work is intended to hinder, expose, restrict, or create consequences for individuals whose actions are causing harm. These workings are approached carefully and only after thorough consultation and assessment of the circumstances involved.

Examples may include:

  • Jinxes

  • Hexes

  • Curses

  • Crossing work

  • Shut-up work

  • Exposure workings

  • Separation work

  • Binding and restriction work

Because these situations often involve significant emotional, ethical, and energetic considerations, baneful workings typically require a more in-depth consultation and spiritual evaluation before any work is accepted.

Custom & Complex Cases

Some situations do not fit neatly into a single category and require a more comprehensive approach. These cases often involve multiple goals, layered obstacles, or long-standing circumstances.

Examples may include:

  • Major life transitions

  • Complex relationship situations

  • Family disputes

  • Long-term spiritual remediation

  • Multi-stage spellcraft

  • Customized ritual programs

Every working is designed specifically for the individual client and their circumstances. The categories above serve as starting points for discussion, but the final structure, methods, and scope of the work are determined during consultation.

This format keeps the tone professional and transparent while acknowledging that baneful work is part of your practice without making it the centerpiece of the service menu.

Spell Complexity

Simple Spellwork

Simple spellwork is designed around a single intention and a clearly defined goal. These workings are ideal when a situation simply needs an energetic nudge in the right direction rather than extensive spiritual intervention.

Simple spells typically require fewer materials, less ritual preparation, and a shorter performance timeline. They are focused, direct, and effective for situations where there are minimal obstacles or outside influences affecting the outcome.

Examples of simple spellwork may include:

  • Road opening spells

  • Good luck spells

  • Confidence and self-empowerment work

  • Attraction spells

  • Basic prosperity work

  • Home blessings

  • Simple protection rituals

  • Creativity and inspiration work

These workings are often best viewed as energetic support that helps strengthen momentum toward your desired outcome.

Moderate Spellwork

Moderate spellwork is used when a situation contains multiple factors, obstacles, blockages, or moving parts that must be addressed before progress can occur.

These workings require significantly more time, energy, ritual preparation, and spiritual assessment. Depending on the nature of the case, moderate workings may take several days to a week to complete and often involve multiple ritual sessions.

This level of spellcraft is frequently appropriate when there are emotional complications, external influences, resistance, competing energies, or multiple goals that need to be worked simultaneously.

Examples of moderate spellwork may include:

  • Reconciliation spells

  • Love and relationship enhancement

  • Obstacle removal

  • Ongoing protection work

  • Prosperity and business growth spells

  • Influence and communication work

  • Spiritual uncrossing

  • Justice and reversal work

Moderate workings allow for a more strategic and layered approach, addressing not only the desired outcome but also the energetic factors that may be standing in the way.

Complex Spellwork

Complex spellwork is reserved for situations involving major blockages, multiple individuals, long-standing circumstances, or highly intricate energetic dynamics.

These workings require sustained energy, extensive ritual planning, significant resources, and multiple stages of spiritual work. Depending on the case, a complex working may take anywhere from one week to several weeks to perform.

In some cases, complex spellwork may also include the creation and shipment of customized ritual items, talismans, candles, oils, charms, or other spiritual tools for the client to actively work alongside me throughout the process. This creates a collaborative approach that allows the client to remain engaged with the working while I continue the larger ritual efforts on my end.

Examples of complex spellwork may include:

  • Deep reconciliation work

  • Separation and uncoupling rituals

  • Baneful workings, including hexes, curses, and jinxes

  • Long-term protection and defense work

  • Multi-stage prosperity operations

  • Family and interpersonal conflicts involving multiple people

  • Generational or ancestral healing work

  • Cases involving significant spiritual resistance

These are often the most demanding types of spellcasting because they require ongoing assessment, adaptation, and sustained ritual focus over an extended period of time.

Why Every Spell Begins With a Consultation

No matter which category your situation falls into, every case begins with a consultation. During this process, we'll discuss your goals, your circumstances, any obstacles that may be present, and the outcome you're hoping to achieve.

From there, I determine the most appropriate level of work and create a custom spellcasting plan tailored specifically to your needs.

My practice is built on personalized ritual work rather than generic, pre-written spells. Every working is designed with intention, care, and attention to the unique factors surrounding your situation.

If you're unsure whether your case falls into a simple, moderate, or complex category, that's perfectly normal. Most clients know what they want to change, attract, remove, or improve—they simply don't know the magical terminology for it. That's exactly what the consultation process is for.

Together, we'll identify the most effective path forward and create a working that is aligned with your goals, circumstances, and desired outcome.

This article will rank well for searches related to custom spellcasting, professional witch services, love spells, prosperity spells, protection spells, baneful magick, spellcaster consultation, and personalized ritual work while also helping clients understand why different cases are priced and structured differently.
